Description of Panasonic Dect 6.0 Expandable Digital Cordless Phone - 3 Handset System (KX-TG6313S)
|
DECT 6.0 (Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications) technology lets you move freely around your home with long range and amazingly clear sound. It also assures greater protection against eavesdropping for all your calls. Operating in the 1.9GHz frequency range, your phone will not conflict with other wireless devices such as computer routers, wireless keyboards, microwave ovens and other common household devices. Now you can program each handset to ring - or not - at your discretion. Before going to sleep, simply set the bedside handset to night mode so that it won't ring in your bedroom. In the meantime, the handset in the den will still ring when that important call comes in without disturbing the person who's sleeping. With three handsets included (one base and two chargers) and the option of adding up to three additional handsets - all while using only one base and one phone jack - go ahead and put one in the den, the kitchen, the master bedroom and the living room so you won't have to make a run for it when the phone rings.Don't miss important calls when the ringer is off. The light-up indicator with ringer alert at the base of the antenna will flash quickly to show that you have an incoming call, and it will flash slowly to let you know you have a new message. So turn off the ringer and never miss a call.

Customer Rating: Summary: Unsure Comment: I'm not really sure if these phones work very well. I plan to give them more time, but they definitely are not performing well.
Customer Rating: Summary: WARNING -- PHONES ARE NOT AS DESCRIBED Comment: These phones do not have all the features advertised in the manufacturer's product description on the Amazon listing. I would not spend this kind of money for such basic phones.
Customer Rating: Summary: Misleading & Incorrect Product Description Comment: I purchased the KX-TG6313S & and an extra handset from Amazon.com on December 20th to support a second phone line (VOIP) that we recently added.
The item as listed at the time of order (and is still there today January 3rd):
Technical Details
* DECT 6.0 expandable digital cordless answering system
* Talking caller ID; talking alarm clock; talking battery alert
* All-digital answering machine; night mode with light-up indicator
* 50-station shared phonebook; digital handset speakerphone
* Expandable up to six handsets for busy offices and homes
INACCURATE/MISLEADING:
There is NO talking caller ID, talking alarm clock or talking battery alert. Panasonic makes DECT systems with these features, but they are NOT available with this unit.
As another customer has noted, there is no digital answering machine - although I suspected that when I ordered. As long as the system supported voicemail (and it does) I was okay with that.
System PROS:
I tried this system on both our regular telco (POTS) and the new VOIP line and call quality is excellent for both. I've had ZERO problems with fuzzy calls or range problems with handsets away from the base - we have a good sized home. This is our second Panasonic DECT system (the other is the KX-TG1034S). I really prefer this one because of the shared phonebook. However, some customers might prefer separate phonebooks for each handset for different users on their system.
System cons:
At least one user complained about the phone charging light being too bright at night. Although I disagree about the brightness, this light is the same light for voicemail, but it blinks (or flashes) for new voicemail. The problem (for me) is that voicemail indicator is not all that noticeable in well lit areas from some angles.
Lack of backlit keys is a minor drawback.
For only about $20 more than I paid for the KX-TG6313 & an extra handset, a different 4 handset Panasonic DECT system is available (on Amazon) that actually has ALL of the features listed. Other competing systems from Sam's Club and other merchants are available (for somewhat more) with these features as well. The misleading/inaccurate product description of this system on Amazon might cause buyers to eliminate other systems because the price difference.
Amazon kudos:
Although I requested free Super-Saver shipping and expected the items to arrive around the end of the year, they actually shipped much sooner and arrived on the 24th.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great if you don't need an Answering Machine. Comment: Panasonic Dect 6.0 Expandable Digital Cordless Phone - 3 Handset System (KX-TG6313S)~~ I ordered this system because of this description:
Technical Details
DECT 6.0 expandable digital cordless answering system
Talking caller ID; talking alarm clock; talking battery alert
All-digital answering machine; night mode with light-up indicator
50-station shared phonebook; digital handset speakerphone
Expandable up to six handsets for busy offices and homes
I thought that meant that there was an "answering" system of some kind. There is NOT! Of course, the instruction manual that came with it is for six (6) different models of Panasonic digital phones. WHEW! I kept searching for the correct instructions. Then, I saw that the base unit had a different model # than the handsets and I thought that was the problem. No, it's not. The only answering system you can use with this model is if you have a Voice Mail account with your telephone company.
The other features are fine but this is not what I needed. I phoned Amazon and asked them to please change the "generic" Technical Details description of this phone so that no one else makes the same incorrect assumption.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great product. Lives up the the Panasonic reputation for quality. Comment: These are my first set of digital chordless phones. The reception is loud and clear. I love the intercom facility and the shared phone book. The speakerphone works great as well. I also love the facility to customize ring-tones for specific callers, though the choice of ring-tones is rather limited.
While the existing product is great value for money, the following improvements would be nice: More ring-tone melodies and/or option to record your own. Option to change the ring-tone for the intercom feature. Larger phone book memory (currently limited to 50 records). Ability to automatically save the caller ID of local calls to phone book without the "1" prefix so that one can use the number without editing out the "1". Having to edit every local number is annoying. Backlit keypad for use in the dark.
